Who We Are
Thanks for stopping by Freedom Hill Farm! Growing up in Appalachia, animals have always been a huge part of our everyday life. For decades, we’ve quietly run our family farm and supported equine rescue efforts—partnering with agencies and trusted contacts to care for sick, emaciated and/or neglected horses.
We’ve grown our farm, added cattle, horse training, riding and horsemanship classes, and some special small animals; but our values remain the same: We help and care for those who cannot help themselves, as God intended for us to do; with Love, Respect, and Empathy, always putting the animal’s well-being first.
Meet Renee
Renee is the founder of Freedom Hill Farm—and the heart behind everything we do. A proud West Virginian and U.S. veteran, she brings deep roots, hands-on experience, and a strong sense of purpose to the farm. She has a background as an accomplished horse woman, horse trainer, and equine exhibitor.
Renee spent her early years in Appalachia, self-taught, developing her compassionate training style using liberty techniques before liberty was a well-known term. Renee began rescuing horses in 2009 and upon her retirement from the military in 2016 she began partnering with local authorities across the Appalachian region, helping to rehabilitate sick and malnourished horses and ensure they’re placed in safe, caring homes.
Today, Renee is growing Freedom Hill Farm to serve a broader mission—welcoming more animals, offering new services, and continuing her commitment to compassionate, responsible animal care and services.
